Reflection: Over 2,000 years ago Catholics started celebrating day of the dead to commemorate past loved ones when invaders came to mexico and had them change their beliefs to Catholicism. It’s mainly celebrated in Mexico and Central America and between October 31 through November 2. This Holiday/tradition is celebrated by making altars for their loved ones and putting items that they enjoyed.
I chose to celebrate my great-grandmother. When I was learning about my great-grandmother I found out things that I would have never guessed that she liked. She liked grapefruit, BK whoppers, and knitting. She cleaned a jewelry store and was very religious. I selected my items based on what she liked and how to best show her off. Creating the altar was easy because I just gathered things she liked and a picture of her with my great-grandfather (I’m guessing she liked him to).
The project was interesting because I got to learn about a past relative and what she was like. It was pretty fun. During the exhibition hardly anyone came up to me and asked what it was about or anything like that. I feel like I did a good job on my project because I took my time and did as I was told.
